This splendid Palace, with 5 individual apartments converted with fabulous flair combines the ambiance of its 16th century origins with the talent of one of Colombia’s most important architects. Dramatic public spaces  include a stunning pool covering the vast courtyard, and a variety of rooftop spaces with splendid views.  This a dramatic and fascinating property.

Enter a majestic, carved wooden door to see expansive arches on massive columns of Coralline, then the spectacular surprise of a vast clear, aquamarine pool which, with its islands of vegetation, encompasses the entire central courtyard. Wood and stone pathways lead you over the water. The fusion of classical columns, glass walls of the apartments’ reception rooms and the high slate waterfall create a cooling and mesmerizing effect. The original stone stairs or an elevator lead to the rooftop terrace with another pool, a gazebo, and a panoramic views of Cartagena’s monuments and the Caribbean Sea. Here is the ideal place for soaking up the sun, or a “Sundowner” at sunset.

Owned in its early years by the bishop of Cartagena, and acquired in 1804 by Don Manuel de Anguiano, commanding officer of the Royal Army and hero of the War for the Independence, the Palace was then owned for 150 years by the Pombo family, whose name it now bears.

Among the five apartments available in Palacio Pombo you may choose from 2,3, or 4 bedroom apartments, or rent the whole residence, sleeping a total of 15. Each offers great architectural detail and a contemporary twist. They are designed as large loft spaces with colonial ceilings exceeding 16′ in height.  Each apartment has its own reception area, a fully equipped private kitchen, individual air conditioning and several 42” LCD TVs. Each bedroom is equipped with its own private bath. You  will benefit from the use of two pools, one situated on the ground floor patio, and the other one on the rooftop terrace where you enjoy panoramic views of Cartagena’s monuments and the Caribbean Sea. Most apartments have an additional private rooftop terrace of their own. All of them enjoy views of the internal patio pool and share the use of the rooftop swimming pool with solarium.  The furnishings are a blend of antique and modern.

Casa Pombo has an association with European movie stars who value its discretion and tranquility. A piece of trivia – the bed from the sultry scene in the movie version of Gabriel Marquez’ “Love in the time of Cholera”, involving Javier Bardem and Giovanna Mezogiorno is in one of the apartments !

Casa Pombo is not an hotel; it is a luxurious Palace with apartments. Palacio Pombo nevertheless offers you all the services of a grand luxury hotel: trained personnel, 24/7 doorman, front desk to assist you with restaurants reservations, tours, visits, yachts to “Baru” and “Islas del Rosario” islands, cable television, Wi-Fi connection and SPA.
