Rocktail Camp is the perfect family holiday for exploring and relaxing along South Africa’s coast- from the coastal forest to the beach and ocean. Rocktail is located in the north-east corner of South Africa by the Maputaland Coastal Forest, a lush sanctuary of impressive forests and wetlands, along with stretches of unspoilt coastline a brisk walk from camp.

Included in the Rocktail Camp’s 17 rooms are seven family suites that consist of two bedrooms and a shared bathroom. Each room has an en-suite bathroom and open indoor shower, still retaining privacy and ultimate comfort. Additionally, a honeymoon suite provides a romantic setting with incredible views of the forest and ocean. Large windows allow guests to immerse in the beauty of the surroundings, and the attached decks invite them to live in it.

The best news is that Rocktail offers babysitters and children’s programs. Kids love Rocktail Bay. There is a large outdoor pool, a trampoline, and dedicated children’s playroom with children’s movies/DVD’s. Knowledgeable staff at Camp offer a range of activities for children including arts and crafts, baking, nature walks, forest discovery, and much more. Beach equipment are available for use such as buckets, spades, bats and balls, boomerangs, frisbees, boogie boards, and beach balls.

Common areas at Rocktail include a central dining room and restaurant featuring a variety of foods,with local seafoods, African specialties, and fresh fruits and vegetables. Additionally, a bar and lounge with a large wrap-around veranda, a raised viewing deck, wine cellar, large outdoor pool, and more create a nurturing environment for the whole family.

Outside of the camp are many excursions for every adventurer. A large attraction at Rocktail Camp is the prime diving and fishing. Maputaland Marine Reserve is known as a premier dive site in South Africa, with exclusive access to 16 offshore reef sites. Snorkeling trips are also top attractions, viewing beautiful coral reefs and abundant sea life. If you plan to stay on shore, daily trips to the pristine beaches and rock pools at Lala Nek are available for seaside fun. Other activities may include forest walks, beach walks in search of turtle hatchlings, dune boarding, fish netting, and more.
