Jafferji House is located in the heart of Zanzibar’s historical Stonetown, a World Heritage site. This delightfully personal and elegant boutique hotel has been restored from an historic Stone Town property owned by the owner’s family for well over a century. Unremittingly romantic to the smallest fine detail, Jafferji House should capture the hearts of all who stay there. It combines beautifully modern luxury with the mesmerizing heritage that has shaped Zanzibar’s history. The Hotel takes its name from its owner, Javed Jafferji, a well known international photographer, whose work has taken him around the world and whose passion for antiques is apparent throughout the hotel. Javed has been able to collect unique pieces on his many travels and the hotel has been decorated with his personal collection, blending African, Indian and Arabic style with modern elegance. The hotel also serves as a gallery for many of Javed’s original award-winning photographs. He has assured that Jafferji House, lovingly restored, reflects its original splendour from the days of the Sultans, when Zanzibar was the capital of Oman.
Jafferja House also offers a delectable Spa nestled on the top floor looking out over the Zanzibar rooftops, with stunning views of the Indian Ocean. The roof-top Spa offers the perfect retreat from the the rather chaotic streets of Stonetown. Relax with a hot stone massage, an aromatherapy scrub, or a warm milk bath.
Jafferji House also has its own restaurant, the Mistress of Spice, whch offers an interesting menu based on Zanzibar’s Arab, Asian, Indian and African origins, and of course the Island’s spices. Alternatively, enjoy a private dinner on the candle-lit rooftop with glorious views over the town.
The suites are splendid in every way. The decor imbues any occupant with the idea that something exotic might happen at any moment. They are large and spacious, with a touch of eastern mystery about them, each with its own style, reminiscent of the characters and subjects after which they are named.
All in all, this is a very special, and highly commendable, place.
